The Hyde Park Youth Symphony is excited to offer paid summer internships for high school students and college students (age 15 - 22), sponsored by the Illinois Arts Council.

Internship Description

Summer College Internship

Part-Time | Paid Internship

The Hyde Park Youth Symphony (HPYS) is excited to offer paid summer internships for college students (up to age 22), sponsored by the Illinois Arts Council.

Position Details:

  • Duration: May 15 – September 3 (12 weeks, with unpaid vacation time)
  • Hours: ~5-7 hours per week
  • Compensation: Paid internship, $20/hour

    Responsibilities:

  • Assist with database management, research, and communications
  • Provide event support, including representing HPYS at select community events
  • Work independently and collaboratively with HPYS board members, staff, and fellow interns
  • Attend regular meetings and manage assigned tasks efficiently

    Ideal Candidates:

  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Responsive to email and effective communicators
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting

    • Summer High School Internship

    Part-Time | Paid Internship

    The Hyde Park Youth Symphony (HPYS) is excited to offer paid summer internships for high school students (ages 15+), sponsored by the Illinois Arts Council.

    Position Details:

  • Duration: May 15 – September 15 (12 weeks, with additional “off” weeks)
  • Hours: ~4-6 hours per week
  • Compensation: Paid internship, $800 stipend

    Responsibilities:

  • Assist with promotional activities, research, and communications
  • Provide event support, including representing HPYS at select community events
  • Work independently and collaboratively with HPYS board members, staff, and fellow interns
  • Attend regular meetings and manage assigned tasks efficiently

    Ideal Candidates:

  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • Responsive to email and effective communicators
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting

    • The Hyde Park Youth Symphony has been a cultural staple on the South Side of Chicago for 70 years.

    Since 2015, the HPYS has been an in-residence partner organization of both the University of Chicago Department of Music and the Logan Center for the Arts. Rehearsals and performances take place on the beautiful and inspiring UChicago campus, and students have access to the world-class facilities and resources through this partnership. Last season, Youth Symphony performed at leading venues across the South Side, including Rockefeller Chapel, the South Shore Cultural Center, Mandel Hall, and Logan Center.

    For 70 years, the HPYS has provided a high-quality arts experience for youth musicians, nurturing in them a love of music that will last a lifetime. The HPYS serves a diverse range of young people and families from various educational, racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, bringing them together in the joy of making music together.
