HPYS Receives DCASE Funding Support
November 20, 2025The Hyde Park Youth Symphony (HPYS) announces that Executive Director Tim Corpus will step down at the conclusion of the 2025–26 season. Corpus previously served in the role in 2016–17 and then rejoined the organization in 2021.
During his tenure, Corpus helped HPYS navigate the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, modernized the organization’s internal systems including the launch of a new CRM platform, oversaw partnerships with local institutions such as Uniting Voices Chicago, and strengthened the organization’s financial footing. Under his leadership, HPYS secured vital funding from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), and the Harper Court Arts Council, among others, supporting the organization’s annual operating budget as it has grown to over $100,000.
“It has been an honor to work with an organization I care about deeply,” said Corpus. “Our musicians, families, and community partners have inspired me every step of the way. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I look forward to cheering on HPYS as it continues to flourish in the years ahead.”
While he will miss working with HPYS families, Corpus’ work as a composer for live performance and film will now take a front seat. “Tim has been invaluable to HPYS over the past 5 years and will be sorely missed,” shared Radiah Smith-Donald, HPYS Board co-President. “However, we are thrilled to see his career taking off and were so proud to hear his composition performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia Festival this past summer.
Founded in 1955 and now in its 71st season, HPYS remains committed to providing a high-quality orchestral education and performance experience to a diverse group of students from across Chicago’s South Side. This season continues with three upcoming performances, including a winter concert on December 18 at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. The organization is launching a search for its next Executive Director, who will begin in spring 2026. Information regarding the position will be announced soon at www.thehpys.org/careers
